It’s a Toyota, so some ancient Toyota engine as it’s not even a cross flow head.

Best guess: It’s a toyota 4 cylinder.

Couple of Nissan SR20 engines would pull a premium a week before Race Wars huh?

I’m going to make a wild guess based on nothing to do with the picture.
Toyota makes a bunch of forklifts, and according to various places around the internet, they use 5R and 4Y motors which are somewhat related to the 22R in older Toyota trucks.
If it’s not a Toyota, well, I got nothing.

Ford 3cyl diesel or non-boosted ecoboost

Looks like a 4-cyl VW.

There’s too much VW gear on that engine to be coincidence. I cheated a bit with google, guessing it’s a TDI 2.0t

Volkswagen, looks like a mix if Mk3 and early Mk4 stuff, with some non-US market intake & fueling.

yup, I guessed VW because of the coolant reservoir.

That looks a bit different than the 40's Chrysler in dustrial motor in the forklift I used to use.

You can argue about leaky sunroofs, or previous generation overall build quality, but a VW 4-cyl engine is pretty solid.
